Some interesting news from EE today – they have launched the UK’s first WiFi Calling service. EE talk about allowing people to make calls while at home when they do not have a phone signal.

EE’s CEO Olaf Swantee said “Losing coverage at home is a major frustration, and WiFi Calling will make a real difference to millions of customers across the UK, from basement flats in London to the most rural homes in the country. Our customers want to be able to call and text no matter where they are, and they don’t want to have to think about which app they need to use or if their friends have a particular third party service.”

The technology is built right into the phone’s handset, with no need for an external “over the top” app, so any calls made will use the phone’s normal dialer and contact book to make calls.

What is interesting is that actually, this new feature can be used anywhere, including public places and venues offering free WiFi. If you own a venue or public facing business which faces poor mobile network coverage (especially when many people are present), then offering free WiFi can help your customers keep in touch with their friends.

It’s another compelling reason to supply WiFi to your guests. With Social WiFi, you can get something in return, so why not head over to our home page for details of how Fusion can help you get to know your customers.
